Cooking and creating healthy meals can sometimes seem like a chore but the trick to eating healthy is variety.
I personally sit down each weekend and write out a meal plan for the week before I go shopping. Planning a variety of meats, veggies can add color, flavor and different textures to each meal making them unique and different. I also always cook extra to make freezer meals for the days that life gets ahead of me and the kids evening activities don’t allow for preparing a healthy meal, instead of ordering a pizza I know I have something in the freezer that won’t take long to thaw and reheat. Another great trick I use is adding a dietary veggie supplement to meatloaves and spaghetti sauces for an extra boost in nutrients.
Tips for Meal Prepping:
I start out by writing out a list of all the meals I would like to cook for the week and making a grocery list of the food and supplies I will need. It saves me time to spend my weekends cooking many meals in 1 session. I prepare and wash all my vegetables and it also saves me time with the cleanup. Having the proper tools in your kitchen also helps. I highly recommend you invest in superior knife set that you can sharpen yourself. For years I’ve been using cast iron to cook on my stove top with because of anemia. but I cook everything else in the oven on stoneware by Pampered Chef, by doing this I find I’m able to stay away from oils and non stick sprays.
Take the time to prepare each meal so it’s ready to pop into the oven for reheating or that the main part of the meal has been cooked and you only need to prepare a side salad or fresh veggies that evening to save you time. Using multiple purpose cookware that can go from freezer to fridge and oven will also save time in preparing the meal and clean up afterward as well. Another tip I have for meal preparing is to use fresh herbs and spices, This will give your meals amazing aroma and fresh taste even if you eat them on a Friday when they were prepared the Sunday before. You don’t need to lack healthy, delicious meals when meal planning.
